Musings of My Mind
Digital divides

We draw nearer to each other via satellites and high-speed cables while pulling ourselves farther away from the things and (most importantly) people we can see, hear, and touch. While out, I’m in ever-increasing awe at the silos we create, avoiding contact with other beings, neglecting the fact they’re much better mirrors than an interface will ever be. Is the abyss of the Internet more wonderful than that of the universe?

So I was in an epic meals mood today.

L to r: peppers stuffed w/ sausage or shrimp, potatoes and sausage, and my version of chicken meatballs.

Took all of five hours w/ dicing and slicing shrooms, onions and whatnot. Pardon me while I pass out.

[P]lenty of nonpassive citizens populated our republic long before the advent of Web 2.0—be they activists, journalists, reformers, or town-meeting members. It may be easier to galvanize such people thanks to the vast array of platforms and apps at their disposal, but the Web has not summoned them into existence.

“Everybody is half-dead. Everybody avoids everybody. All over the place in most situations, most all of the time. I know, I am one of those ‘everybodys’. And to me it is terrible. And so all I’m trying to do all the time is just open people up so they can feel themselves and let themselves be open to somebody else. That’s all. That’s it.

I’ve always thought I was shaking people up. Now I wanna go at it more. And go at it more deliberately. And I wanna go at it coldly. I want to shake people up so bad that when they leave a nightclub where I performed - I just want them to be to pieces. I want to go into that den of those elegant people with their old ideas, smugness, and just drive them insane! When I’m calm and cool and really got that antennae working, you know when to push and you know when to not. Nobody can tell you though! You gotta feel it - in any situation between human beings. It’s what makes a groove.

(Freedom) is just a feeling. It’s like how do you tell somebody how it feels to be in love? How are you going to tell anybody who has not been in love how it feels to be in love? You cannot do it to save your life. You can describe things but you can’t tell them. But you KNOW it when it happens…. It’s NO FEAR. Like a new way of seeing.”

Start with the following two facts: Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works. So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash’ unless it’s illegal.
